526x or 716?
Any thoughts on which one: 526x or 716? Diskless units are about the same price on Amazon right now.
I know the 716 is an older unit but an wondering how it compares to the 526x?
Thinking about upgrading a 314 that is over 4 years old.
Thanks for your thoughts.

The 716x has quite a bit more more memory (16 GB vs 4 GB) and a faster CPU. The 526x should be a bit more power-efficient.
Both are faster than your RN314.

Performance wise the RN716X is more comparable to the new RN626X which was released alongside the RN526X.
The RN716X has an Intel Xeon Ivy Bridge E3-1265Lv2 2.5GHz (3.5GHz Turbo) Quad Core with 16GB ECC
The RN626X is Intel® D-1521 Quad Core 2.4GHz Xeon Server Processor with 8GB DDR4 ECC RAM
The E3-1265Lv2 uses a 22nm manufacturing process, while the D-1521 processor is much newer and uses a 14nm process. The D-1521 will operate faster at a lower clock speed

In theory, the 716 will blow the 526x out of the water if all you are looking for is pure speed.

If you are interested in CPU-intensive tasks (for instance plex 4K transcoding), then certainly the 716 is the better option. Even if you are just using the ReadyNAS as file server, the memory uplift could be helpful.
Though I am quite happy with my 526x performance, it is no slouch either.
