Adding more capacity to existing volume

I have a RNDP-6000 running 6.10.7 with two 12tb drives in X-Raid (Raid 1). I have a couple of 8tb drives I would like to use in this NAS. I know that I would have to destroy the current volume, add the 2x8tb drives and then create a new volume if I want all four drives (2x12tb and 2x8tb) to be configured as one volume. That is not a problem.

In a few months I will have another two 8tb drives available that I would also like to add to this NAS.

My question is, if I create a new single volume now using 2x12tb and 2x8tb drives, can I then add the additional two 8tb drives to that volume once I get them, or will I have to again destroy the volume, add the two additional 8tb drives then create a new volume with 2x12tb and 4x8tb ? So, do any drives added to an existing volume need to be the same size or larger than the smallest drive in the array or the largest drive in the array?

That's a good question - I think the answer is yes, though I have not tried it myself.

One option is to switch to flexraid, and add in the 2x8TB you already have as a second RAID-1 volume.  Then destroy the volume and recreate when you get the remaining two 8 TB drives.
