Admin page keeps refreshing...time off after 6.10.5 hotfix
I just applied the 6.10.4->6.10.5 hotfix. The files are accessible from Windows Explorer, but I cannot do any maintenance via the web page (I tried in various browsers) because the admin page keeps...

An OS re-install is done from the boot menu, not the GUI. See How-do-I-access-the-boot-menu-on-my-ReadyNAS-102-202-212-or-312 . But I'm not sure that will help, as settings like how time is updated are normally retained when the OS is re-installed. A factory default should fix it, but that wipes out your data.
Do you have SSH enabled? It's possible to set the time or go back to 6.10.4 via SSH.
Was your NAS set up to get NNTP time updates? If so, it is curious that's not working right. Gets me wondering if a dead battery might be the cause for some units doing this, as the time at boot would be wrong.

Thank you for your prompt reply. Yes, as I recall, the NAS was setup to use an NNTP server.
Interestingly, https does not work and reverts to http because of an invalid cert. That MAY be part of the problem.
Running SSH from a Windows Powershell session returns ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.71 port 22: Connection refusedThis is probably because I never set up SSH access and according to documentation, "SSH access is disabled by default." It seems that SSH access can only be opened via the web page, which, of course, is not an option.
Reinstalling the OS is also not an option. I have hundreds of GB of data and I would have to move them to a spare drive, which I do not have. Then I would have to reinstall PHP, PostgreSql, and Plex.
As I mentioned, all was working well (save for the invalid cert) before the hotfix.
Thanks again,

Then the next step is to see if the time is actually being updated. If you have the log zip file, you can look in connman.log for stuff like this:
May 02 06:20:54 RN102 connmand[1964]: ntp: adjust (slew): +0.000374 sec
Did you set up the NAS to use DHCP? A misconfigured network could result in breaking NTP. For instance, leaving out the DNS server(s) when you configure a static address.

The OS reinstall does a partial reinstall of the OS. It won't affect your data, and you normally don't need to reinstall any apps. Certainly that's the case with plex, I don't use the other two.
But not having a backup plan in place for your NAS is taking a big risk - at some point you will lose the data, it's just a question of when. Maybe a topic for another day though.

This is very strange. I looked at the few logfiles I was able to get to and noticed that the time had been off for months; yet I had never had this problem before. This suggests that the problem has nothing to do with the time.
But then, for yucks, I tried logging in to the UI again and it succeeded...that is, long enough for me to set up SSH and reset the time server to time.google.com (replacing us.pool.ntp.org). When I applied that NTP server, of course I got kicked out of the UI, so had to log back in.
And now the problem returns! The page displays long enough for me to see that the time is now correct. But it fails as it builds the list of apps. I wonder if one of my apps is causing this...perhaps Plex?Thinking that I could now SSH in, I get this after entering my credentials:
Welcome to ReadyNASOS 6.10.5
Connection to 192.168.1.71 closed.
So I cannot get in to shut down the apps to see if that uncovers the problem.

Later today or tomorrow I suppose I will try an OS reinstall from the boot menu. If it simply reinstalls 6.10.5 I'm not sure how successful the process will be, however.
As things stand at the moment, I can't stay connected for more than 10 seconds via the browser interface (multiple browsers, Windows and Android). I can very briefly switch from the admin page to another option, but am disconnected too soon to be able to carry out a command (eg, d/l a log file). I can't log in via Putty as I am denied access and I can't generate any log file via Putty which I thought might help.
Will report back.

Can you get a log file via RAIDar?
- popsterMay 23, 2021Aspirant
I'd forgotten about RAIDar. Yes, I was able to connect to the NAS with RAIDar and d/l all the logs after making a couple of attempts to access the admin page. I went through every log and the corresponding time stamps and saw nothing that would give a hint as to what's going on. Nevertheless, I'd be happy to post whichever one(s) you'd like to review.
Thanks!
