I've gone for QNAP, and managed to buy direct with a decent black Friday saving. The only other real contenders for me were Synology and AsusStor.
Synology seem to have been going back and forth with their position on drive support, I think that's been backtracked perhaps, but seems to have dented confidence with some - and whilst I've had experience of other Asus kit, their pricing couldn't match QNAP, who most will recognise as having a good rep in this area.
I notice a few brands seem to have appeared in the market, names I've never heard of before, so I'm not into that risk, and guess those brands have spotted a bandwagon to get onboard.
I've added Seagate Ironwolf drives, which are also on the QNAP HCL. I needed an initial chat with tech support about some details, and have to say the level of expertise was excellent.
Once I've got it set up and am happy with that, my thinking is to make the QNAP my primary storage, and I'll sort some replication jobs out to copy that data over to my RN422. To be fair to that unit, it's been steady, and the only real issues were a couple of occasions when the OS needed reflashing, which admittedly were a tad worrying at the time!
Another attractive aspect of QNAP is the wide range of apps. I'll probably only use a handful, but that was good to see.
