APC Back-UPS XS-1500 problems

I solved the problem by doing a FACTORY reset and updating the OS from 4.2.20 to 4.2.21. I then rsynced the disk to the system to reload all of the shares. Plugging the UPS into the system after the upgrade and reboot picked up the UPS immediately. The XS-1500 does work.
FYI - the only thing that I have done differently this time is that I have not entered any times in the System:Power "Power Timer" option for this system. I had entered some times to sleep before having the problem but I had unchecked the "Enable Power Timer" box the day before adding the UPS so that I could work on the system. The UPS was first connected to the system while the Power Timer would have powered the system off - IF it had been enabled but it definitely was NOT ENABLED when this problem occurred.
Maybe it would be smarter to just spin the disks down and leave the system powered up.
PS - this NAS is so much faster than the Duo that I have at home.
