Hello everyone - PapaBear you are totally right it's a different plug which I realised when I tried to put a different RJ45 cable in as I thought maybe it was loose in the jack or something!
Anyway, I received a StarTech 1.8m UPS Replacement USB Cable (AP9827) this afternoon and I plugged it in and voila!! ReadyNAS now sees the UPS - I didn't even have to restart the ReadyNAS or the UPS! Problem was a faulty cable all along.
Thanks for everyones help which lead me to this solution! :)
