ATA Securety lock on HDD
Hi, I have a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo v2 it seems that it has locked my two WD Red disks with a security protocol or something like that called ATA Securety. So I think all I need is a password but I didn't create the password myself. I have looked everywhere online. Including talking to Netgear and WD but they won't give me the password (seems like they don't know it themselves).
so I am writing here to hopefully find someone who can help with the problem of removing the ATA Securet password that is on my two disks that I have used in the Netgear ReadyNAS Duo v2.

Did you start a secure erase from the boot menu, and then interrupt it?
The password is simply NETGEAR.
The disks can be unlocked again with hdparm
hdparm --security-unlock NETGEAR /dev/sdXWhere sdX is the linux disk hard drive name.
Do you still have the Duo? If not, do you have access to a linux system?
If not, there is a Windows hard drive tool that might also do the job.
Not a tool I've ever used mystelf. But there is supposed to be a "Security operations" option on the "Service" tab that will let you unlock the drive.

Western Digital wouldn't know it, as the security password was set by the Duo. (No idea why Netgear thought that was a good idea).
Netgear certainly used to know how to unlock the drives, but you are talking about a NAS that became end-of-life 10 years ago. On top of that Netgear has wound down their ReadyNAS business, and no longer offer support.
