Backing up Time Machine sparse bundles

I have a couple of Macs backing up successfully to my ReadyNas Pro (running 6.10.10). I can browse the files in Finder if I log in as admin.

What I cannot seem to do, is schedule a backup within the ReadyNas UI of the folder that the sparesebundles are in. The folder is hidden and won't show up, and you can't free text the source directory field.

I'll add that I currently backup up all my other ReadyNas data to rotating USB drives. I'd like to include the sparsebundles.

Anyone know how to get a hidden directory included in the USB backups?

Try telling it the source is external, but use localhost (127.0.0.1) as the source IP address.  This will work on normal shares and folders, but I don't know about sparsebundles since I have no Mac hardware.

Thanks Sandshark, that worked. The only problem is the backup is dog slow. We're talking hours for 200Gb. Still wish there was a way to see hidden local directories.

  • Negative. There is no file system known to your NAS in what you designate a sparse bundle as a file system - what is visible to your Mac is indeed some kind of Apple file system, but only mountable on a single Mac only.
