Either way, I'm looking for a low cost DVR solution that will allow me to record from cable or OTA, straight to the ReadyNAS. I would even consider a DVR solution that does not even have a built-in HDD, but only relies on an external NAS for recording. Not sure if such a device even exists.
I would still consider a TiVo, but most are very expensive. Is the Tivo integration seemless? This is not a setup I want to see breaking all the time.
The overall goal here is to ditch my cable box, and my cableTV bill.
Thanks in advance
Dan
Don't know where you are, but here in England, you're restricted on what boxes you can use on our cableTV network, and hence, will still have to pay something to them, as they are only leasing you the equipment to receive their service. That said, here in UK, they do give a free package and supply a receiver, but it's little better than Freeview box, (OTA/FTA) and you still have to have one of their other services.
However, I believe you can buy third party boxes, (FTA/PayTV) which allow recording to NAS devices. ;) :shhh:
