Blocked serial numbers on second hand purchase
As Ready Duo NAS has been on the market for some time it is of course sold as a second hand in for example eBay.
I have five ReadyDuo NAS and all of them bought secondhand. Works fine, but OBVI...

Ok, thats really bad!
Because I think Netgears existing solution for ReadyNAS Duo to get remote access is to complicated and unstable.
The userfriendiness are undoubtedly the most complex I seen in regards to a "cloud service".
So I really hope that Netgear could get a solution for the Redy NAS Duo as these units are perfect to place in your parents home, friends etc to get a good security regarding fire, burglary and so on, and the unit could be easy accessible and dont need a lot of space at your parents place etc.
So I really hope that Netgear reconsiders, and at least create a light version for Ready NAS Duo...

The Duo was replaced by the RN102 three years ago (2013). So it is an end-of-life product - I don't see any change that Netgear will reconsider.

Ok, fair enough!
But then I think Netgear could open up for others (communities, programmers etc) to create solutions, applications to support this solution.
We are in another paradigm today where solutions as Linux exist since long time and today most of the systems are open source.
Why not support or release and open the possibilities to do a cloud program by a for example community?- StephenBOct 03, 2016Guru - Experienced User
Well, I don't work for Netgear, but I don't think they are likely to open-source the older ReadyNAS software.
OwnCloud can run on the legacy duo (see https://rnxtras.com )
You would need to identify whether you have a v1 (which runs 4.1.x firmware) or a v2 (which runs 5.x.x firmware( before you try it.
