Can I mix disks in a raid set

I have 12 2TB disks in a X-RAID2 set in my ReadyNAS 4200 and one has just failed. The disks are Hitachi HUA722020ALA330 units. Ideally I'd like to replace with an identical unit but I can't find any as it's out of production for a couple of years. Would the newer equivalent, the HUS724020ALA640 work?

  • It isn't on the HCL- if the unit is still under warranty that could be a concern.

It likely would work, though I don't see any posts in the forum from people using that model.
  • Will any 2TB disk from the HCL work alongside 11x HUA722020ALA330 disks?
  • They should. Mix and match is not a problem, as long as the number of sectors matches.
