Cannot access data on my RN104

I have 4 x 4Tb drives in my NAS, and all are showing solid blue lights on the physical device. The performance screen in the ReadyNAS app shows green for all 4 drives and performing as expected for temperature etc.

But the Volumes screen is odd, as all 4 drives are red in the image of the NAS?

Why is it asking me to remove inactive volumes? And should I remove the 10.9TB volume or the other one?

My laptop still sees the NAS, and the partitions/folders I created on it, but cannot access the data, coming up with error message saying it cannot reconnect as the local device name is already in use.

How do I resolve this as I have a lifetime of photos and other data stored on the NAS (I'm assuming that the data hasn't been lost, I just can't access it?)

Many thanks to whoever helps. :)

  • So I had a power failure, then another failure as the system was rebooting.
That was when I stopped having the connection to the NAS

Had to do a Firmware Reinstall as I couldn't access the Admin app. (and to be fair, while the NAS was working I haven't done any admin with it - 8+ years)

I'll get onto the Log files asap.

Thanks for this, it is most appreciated.

Removing either will result in data loss, so don't do that.

It is at risk.  RAID isn't enough to keep data safe, you need a backup plan to accomplish that goal.

There are several different causes - disk failure (despite the green lights), improper shutdown/power loss, and btrfs file system corruption (sometimes triggered by free space exhaustion).

Download the full log zip file from the logs page - there will be more information there.  If you need help analyzing it, you can upload the full zip to cloud storage and send me a link via private message (PM).  Make sure the link permissions allow anyone with the link to download.  You send a PM using the envelope icon in the upper right of the forum page.

It's best not to post the link publicly - there is some privacy loss when you do that.
