Cannot Access ReadyNAS 2100

Sorry ahead of time about the incoming wall of text.

I am using 9 ReadyNAS 2100s in a movie theater for content storage and playback. This is a common setup for movie theaters running Christie (brand) projectors.  A few days ago one of our NAS was showing signs up a corrupted disk and I removed it from the array so that the NAS would stop trying to use that disk for playback (it was causing skipping issues). While waiting for a replacement disk to arrive, a 2nd disk went bad so we lost all the data on that NAS - Not a big deal, we have all the data backed up on a central storage system, and much of it is stored on the NAS's in the other auditoriums as well.   When the new disks arrived and I replaced them I had trouble getting Frontview to allow me to add the new drives to the volume - Instead it tried to add the 2 new drives as spares so after some fiddling I decided to just do a factory reset and wipe all the drives to start from scratch.  I used the boot menu to accomplish this.

Now I cannot access frontview - RAIDar allows me to setup the RAID level, but after creating the volume it gets stuck at "System Starting up" and never progresses even after an hour, but navigating my web browser to 192.168.168.168 yields a "Connection refused" by my browser.  I also tried going into the boot menu and using the "OS Reinstall" option - RAIDar shows "System Upgrading" followed by "System starting up" but never progresses beyond that.  I can ping the nas but I cannot create or access any shares nor can I access frontview.  I assume that the apache server is not running for whatever reason, but I do not know how to fix it.  I also tried booting into Tech Support Mode, and was able to successfully log into the NAS using Putty over telnet, but I am unfamiliar with these systems and did not want to cause further damage, so I left that route alone.

Nothing I've tried so far seems to work. Can anyone help me?  This auditorium is down until a replacement can be shipped or I can get this NAS back online.  I have tried combinations of "OS Reinstall" and "Factory reset" from the boot menu about 20x each by now I think with no results.

I dont know the LED language but on the defective NAS USB-OFF 1-ON 2-ON 3-ON 4-BLINK ACT-ON PWR-ON.  On my working units its USB-OFF 1-ON 2-ON 3-ON 4-ON ACT-RAPID BLINK PWR-ON.

The fact that I can get into the unit via telnet gives me hope that this unit can be salvaged.  Honestly I don't care too much about frontview if I can at least get it to mount and share files.

Thanks to all who help in advance.

Hi, this sounds like an issue that might have happened the last time the firmware was upgraded on that chassis. Sometimes when you try to factory default and the boot flash has a bad copy of the image, you might run into this issue.

I'm going to PM you a response.

  • Also I tried booting the device without the disks and it still will not lt me into the gui. I also tried the "skip volume check" boot unsuccessfully.

It finally did boot about an hour after my latest OS Reinstall, but it does not allow me to access the filesystem. or frontview.  RAIDar recognizes it but it doesn't allow me to do anything.

      Just sent you a PM.

You can normally fix this with a USB Recovery but there's something different about RN2100s from Christie.

This site is out of warranty with Christie so an RMA with them is basically a no go. I'm willing to refl ash it with a stock firmware, if that's plausible at this point. Otherwise I have a very expensive paperweight on my hands

I looked at the other 8 NAS on site and they are all running 4.2.26-T1 or 4.2.26-T4.  Are those special Christie firmwares?

  • I think Kohdee may have signed out for the evening.  Is there anyone available to help me reflash my ReadyNAS 2100? I have it in tech support mode with the my debug code being 50850.

    Thanks

  • Did anyone happen to log into this unit remotely? It was online when I left the theater, but is now offline since I returned home and logged into the site remotely. I cannot ping it or see it in RAIDar. Hopefully that means someone managed to log in and reflash it remotely? :smileyhappy:

Just trying to get my hopes up.  More than likely this did not happen, but if it did I would like to know for certain.

I realize this post is old but i'll give it a try.

Christie has been using the standard Radiator builds for over a year now  (currently RAIDiator –x86-V4.2.26).  The build in question was an interim fix to a problem that Christie found in Radiator builds prior to 4.2.26 so Netgear made 4.2.26-TX until the problem was solved, then released 4.2.26.  Also, Netgear 2100's that Christie uses are standard off the shelf units.

I looked into it further. We replaced the NIC driver for RN2100 in 4.2.26 going forward, so all new firmware since then should work with the Christie projectors.

I have since also released the RAIDiator 4.2 rebuild utiltiy. http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30267  -- sorry it took me so long to get it out.
