Cannot get RND2000 v1 to Boot

I just picked up a ReadyNAS DUO v1 off of eBay and I'm trying to get it to boot. The ReadyNAS came with 2 - 1.5TB drives installed.

I've tried using the reset button to do a Factory Reset but I don't think the ReadyNAS is actually doing anything.  I pulled both 1.5TB drives and put them in a Windows machine where i did a clean in disk part thinking the ReadyNAS would rebuild them automatically with no luck.  Trying RAIDar the only way I can get it to see the ReadyNAS is if I pull both drives on the ReadyNAS.  I get an IP address and the ReadyNAS is pingable.  However, as soon as I plug a HDD into the ReadyNAS it stops responding to ping and just goes into its Power light steadily blinking state.

I have a ReadyNAS NV+ that I've done similar stuff with in the past and it always seems to work solid.  I even thought maybe I could build a RAID array on that and then move the HDD over to the ReadyNAS Duo but the Duo still seems to just sit with the steady blinking power light.

I'm thinking at this point I might need to do a USB or TFTP recovery to this NAS but I haven't found any good articles on how to perform the process.  Does anyone think this might be the route to go at this point?  Or did I just buy a bad ReadyNAS and need to trash it?

Thanks,

Mike

      Hi Stephen,

      Thanks for the response.

I will try zeroing out the disks now and let you know what the result is.  I've tried individually and paired, Seagate 750GB, 1.5TB, and 2TB drives with no luck.  I have been able to get all sets of HDD working in a ReadyNAS NV+ as part of my testing.

Also with regards to the USB Recovery Tools I find them a bit ambiguous.  There's a couple questions.

      1. When it says "If you are experiencing boot problems and TFTP Boot Recovery and write that image to the USB flash device. To write the image on a Windows PC, you'll need to use Rawrite32."  What image is it referring too?  I downloaded "RAIDiator-Sparc-4.1.16.zip".  Does it want me to just choose that file and write it to the USB?  I feel like those instructions are missing a step on the How/What to actually write on the USB with Rawrite32.

      2. When it says "Power down the ReadyNAS, insert the USB flash device" Does it matter which USB port I plug the USB drive into?  There's one on the front and two in the back.

Also note I was able to get into Tech Support Mode and telnet into the NAS.  But at that point I'm not sure what I can look for to see why it decides to lose network connectivity as soon as I plug a HDD into it.  Any ideas what I can check for in Tech Support Mode to see where my problem might be?

      Thanks,

      Mike
