Interestingly, my clicking noises stopped a few months back. They were incredibly audible throughout the house (because of the positioning of my NAS) but not a problem at all now. The NAS is silent unless you get very close to it...
Whether this was related to a NAS update or what, I'm not sure. I'm now running 4.2.13, for what it's worth.
