Clicking sound with Seagate Barracuda LP ST32000542AS 2TB
Hi I got a new NVX and at that moment these Seagate disks were the only ones on the compatibility list, so I was stupid enough to buy 4 of them. (Shame on you Netgear for not having more disks on t...

Thank you for the post ... Let me just say that firstly ... ( any updates ?)
Your experience is very helpful, enough to tell us consumers were not crazy .... and also not the only ones frustrated. Please keep me (us) informed , ive grown attached to ur post now waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel for someone lol.
To add:
My experience also kinda troubles me . I buy seagate only for there EXCELLENT RMA SERVICES, lets face it the quality and price these drives r being built at , the least u can do is deal with a company that will take care of u hands down no questions and professionally when they do die.
With that said, i am not satisfied with there drives durability. Less than a year of purchase i too have had one (out of 2) fail. In-relation to the Readynas, I too am experiencing the "BIG (CLICK)" lol. Oddly , this same drive(1 out of 2) i have been using in a raid with no hint of issues for about a year now (including BIG (CLICK)). I migrated from a homemade ITX NAS system (which out grew its capabilities) to a Patriot javelin s4 (not endorsing just stating) and then to this readynas Ultra 4 ( upgrade).
I never got the "BIG (CLICK)" while operating in my itx system , even migrating to the Javelin (far slower hardware then the ultra4 by the way) which i ran for about 3 weeks and decided to upgrade as i was pleased with what i purchased but wanted top tier performance for my money . NEVER A ABNORMAL SOUND, until the readynas came into my life. As noted no performance issues or smart sensor scares , just a faint (click) (click) usually when not active. Now im reading for the first time ... this is a KNOWN ISSUE. and im happy to see others experience this issue (not just me), because we all know the manufactures are trained to treat common issues as its a case by case scenario and you just have bad luck(im not crazy.. woot).Thank you again for postin ur experience and keeping us updated.
My Opinion:
Let them click , buy a spare , let seagate replace .Then if ur uneasy about the drives got enterprise.
Ive been threw a 1tb samsung raid edition (less then a year) , a segate 2tb lp(less then a year), and segate 500gb baracuda (tho this one was old and within lifespan) and prior to this NEVER A DRIVE FAILURE(and i buy alot). This all in the last batch of hard drives i purchased. We all see the price/size ratio and how fast it is dropping(faster then the technology trend). I am furtunate enough to see the volume of drives moving from the stores increase as well along side the volume of return costumers with a dead drive in hand. I think we all know whats happening to the build standard of these hard drives. Its being eat out by the demand to soak up as large a costumer base as possible on the market. Personally i still buy seagate knowing this , because at the very least when the drive fails they are pro costumer. 5 year warrenties on drives not lasting 2 in most cases and less then 4 day replacement of the drive ,EVEN OVERNIGHT SHIPPING if ur really upset about the failer.
To me u need enterprise level hard drives (such has ALWAYS BEEN THE STANDARD ANYWAYS) if u really want to trust ur hard drives and even then ur rolling the dice, but then again thats y we all own the Readynas. JUST IN CASE, we know to protect ourselves and that no 1 drive is everlasting.
Ps and a side note:
Netgears role in all this nonsense has been nothing but grade A , in product and in support . I Thank u staff for that also. I find myself replacing all my old equipment with new netgear product. IF ONLY U MADE HARD DRIVES :slap: lol
