Copying data across from old to new NAS

Hi all,

New to community so forgive any mistakes!

I have recently bought a RN204 to replace my WD Live Duo as I likes the features. Now, I want to migrate all my files across and was wondering if there is any quick way of doing this rather than drag and drop through a mac? This method works fine, but as I have close to 3TB of data, it is taking such a long time (as in days!!!). Also, if I select a large chunk, say 20GB's to transfer through the night, in the morning I get an error message and most of the time I have had to delete and restart the transfer over again! Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Bangali

There is a guide on changing the workgroup here: http://www.softwareok.com/?seite=faq-Windows-10&faq=17

Are you still trying to migrate data?  Did you mount a share as a drive letter on the Win10 system?  Or do you mean something else?

  • Hi StephenB, so I have just tried to set it up and when I 'try connection' it gives me the following error:
Error connecting to folder. code: 7077010020

I have checked all the details and everything looks fine. Any ideas?

The LA again for all your help, it's much appreciated.

Does the WD NAS have a way to set the workgroup?

Generally you want the same workgroup name on the NAS and the PCs

Also, are there spaces in the share names?

Sometimes test connection fails, but the backup job succeeds.  So also try running the job anyway.

There is a way on the WD, but Im not sure where to set that on Windows. Also, the share name is one word, Movies so that is what I have entered - does it need any symbols or any slashes etc?

I have tried running the job and the error states 'Source cannot be mounted on the system'

You can set up a backup job in the admin web ui to transfer the data in each share on the WD Live.

Thanks for the quick reply StephenB.. I have had a look but I think I can only create a 'safepoint' of the whole WD NAS. There is a way of selecting specific shares, but that needs ssh access and knowledge of 'Rsync' which I am not familiar with.. Is there any way I can just take out the HDD from the WD and put it in the ReadyNAS? I have it set up in RAID format so would that just copy everything over? Sorry if it's a silly question, I am not too well versed in this!

No, it is formatted completely differently.

You create the backup job from the ReadyNAS web ui, not the WD.  If you can access the shares from Windows, you can transfer the data w/o rsync.

        The source would be "remote".

Host is the IP address of the WD NAS

        Protocol is remote (windows timestamp)

login/password can probably be left blank (but can be the user logon/password you use with the WD).

The destination is "local", and you select the destination share you are copying to.
