Data Transfer Interface
I am looking at populating a ReadyNAS Pro 6 with 2 or 3 GB hard drives. Some come with a 3Gb/s SATA interface and some come with a 6Gb/s SATA interface. This may be a stupid question, but in terms of transfer speed, does it really matter if the interface on the hard drive is 3Gb/s or 6Gb/s since the ethernet network only runs at 1Gb/s? All other things being equal, do you gain anything using a hard drive with a 6Gb/s interface rather than one with a 3Gb/s interface?

There is no actual speed advantage with 6Gb/s. As you say, the network is slower than the SATA bus, also a traditional hard drive's transfer rate is between no more than 1.5 GB/s.wiland wrote: I am looking at populating a ReadyNAS Pro 6 with 2 or 3 GB hard drives.
