Could you disconnect the power cable from the unit, wait 5-10 minutes then reconnect the power cable and see if that makes a difference? Also could you try connecting it directly to a power outlet rather than via the UPS (try to rule out a problem with the UPS)?
When did you purchase this 1100? Was it purchased on/after August 21, 2007?

Power on your 1000S and update it to the latest firmware.
If it doesn't have any disks in it currently, find a spare disk and put that in, do a factory default (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu) and update it to the latest firmware.
Provided the disks are fine you can migrate them across from the 1000S to the 1100: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_migrate_disks_over_from_an_existing_readynas_to_another
