Disk format compatibility
Hello, I own a RadyNAS Ultra 2 which suddanly stopped switching on. I am now ready to purchase a newer model but I also need to find a way to recover the disks content.
My question is which one of the more updated models I can purchase into which I can install the existing disks keeping the access to the saved data. I imagine I need to stay with an R4 version, but if I could get an R6 version it will be preferable.
As an added information, I tried using LinuxReader on Windows to recover the data and I can see the shared folders with the proper name but at 0 size and as unknown type.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Paolo

You would need an x86 unit. See http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29875/~/readynas%3A-migrating-disks-from-raidiator-to-os-6
We've just released the RN526X and RN626X, two new x86 models which would also work.
You would also need somewhere to backup your data to.

Thank you for your clarification.
In relation to the data backup, as I mentioned I tried to access the data using Linux Reader on a Windows PC but it shows the shared folder as empty/unknown file types. Any suggestion?

It would need to support mdadm RAID, lvm2 and EXT4.
Why not just use a Linux machine?
