DLNA transcoding (Pictures/Movies)
Hi,
currently I have a Sparc based Duo, which I am quite happy with.
I used to play movies and display pictures with my Wii, which worked quite well.
Now I got a new TV (Sony Bravia), which can do that directly.
But now I got the following problems:
The DLNA client of the TV, can only play certain movie formats, so I would need the ReadyNas to do some transcoding, obviously the Duo is way to slow for that.
In addition it cannot display jpgs with 4:4:4 subsampling, which would also be too much for that little Sparc CPU.
I do not want to use the Wii for that anymore, since it can only display 480p, while the TV could do 1080p.
Do I have any options with the stronger Ultra series?
Thanks,
Ataraxis

- sphardy1ApprenticePlex is available for Ultra & Pro models and the most recent version adds DLNA server support including transcoding in addition to the proprietary method used.
However, the processing power needed to support transcoding (and therefore the most applicable NAS to select) will be heavily dependent on the media you are trying to stream. Check the forum for more info as there are many posts related to this
