The compatibility list did specify a different suffix for the WD20EARS. It specified the 00S8B1. So even when the WD20EARS was on the compatibility list your model was not.
The Load Cycle Count increasing rapidly is due to a WDIDLE3 setting on the drive. You can hook it up to a PC and run WDIDLE3 on it to change the setting.
