Failure of network card? Case 16730331

My ReadyNAS Duo has been performing very well since I bought it, but I just returned from holiday and found that my music streaming service wouldn't connect and my drive mapping to the NAS was disconnected. I couldn't ping the NAS on it's static IP, and on investigation I found that neither of the transmit/receive lights on the NAS' network cards are lighting up.
So it looks to me like the NIC has failed - my router reports the NAS as "inactive" with an IP address of 0.0.0.0. Presumably because the router cannot communicate with the NAS.
Any help/advice appreciated. The unit is less than 1 year old.
Thanks
Ian

Have you tried changing ethernet cables? Have you tried a different port on the router?
  • Yes to both, and made no difference.
I've brought the unit into work where I've plugged it into a test network we have here. Again no RX/TX lights so something seems to be wrong with the card as far as I can tell.
    Case logged with Netgear 16730331.
  • You might want to edit your first post and append your case # to the subject line. Then it will show up in the listing.

Continue to work with tech support when they contact you. It sounds like you have done all the diagnosis we would suggest.
  • RMA issued (thanks Netgear support, quick and helpful customer service is always appreciated) and unit on its way to the UK for chassis replacement.
Diagnosis is that the integrated NIC has failed.
