Hard Drive Error Codes

Just to clarify, the "4" is not a code, it is a count.

Obviously keep you backups up to date, and monitor the count (and SMART stats) for the drive. I find the simplest way to do that is to download the logs - you can scroll through all the stats using the middle mouse button, but it doesn't work well from most of my PCs.

ATA errors are where commands sent by the SATA controller on the ReadyNAS, were not performed by the hard drive. This may indicate that the disk has an internal hardware error and needs to be replaced.
