Hardware problems / ReadyNAS NV+
Hello,
We've got several problems with our ReadyNAS. We're using ReadyNAS NV+ with the following devices (also see screenshots please):
3x Seagate ST3750640NS [698 GB]
1x WDC WD7500AZEX-00RKKA0 [698 GB]
The system is run as X-RAID (unfortunately, I can't say why it has been configured like this).
Since last week, slot 4 with the Western Digital device is blinking and is obviously not accessable. I've read that this can have several reasons?
- According to the official hardware compatibility list there's no 'WDC WD7500AZEX-00RKKA0' listed for ReadyNAS NV+ / is it compatible then?
- The device may be broken
- Slot 4 may be broken
- Other reasons?

I've already tried to switch the WDC device from slot 4 to slot 2 (which was empty before), but the device was still not recognized and the led of slot 4 (which was empty now) was still blinking, though.
Now, we've switched back the WDC device to slot 4 (which is still blinking) and added another 'Seagate ST3750640NS' to slot 2, which is not recognized by the RAID system (please see screenshot).

Before last week, the NAS was configured like this:
- Slot 1: Seagate ST3750640NS
- Slot 2: empty
- Slot 3: Seagate ST3750640NS
- Slot 4: WDC WD7500AZEX-00RKKA0
Without doing any changes, slot 4 started to blink on last Monday.
3 days later, after doing a backup on Monday, we've noticed a partial loss of data saved during this week. I've found temporary saved files of the lost data in the recycle bin of the NAS. Is there a way to restore these files and find out the reason for the data loss (broken device, configuration failures of the NAS, etc.)?
And a general question: What happens if somebody switches the device from slot 4 to slot 2 (in off status). Does the RAID system should normally recognize the change of the slots or is there something else to follow?
Hoping for your answers. Thank you very much in advance!

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou should be able to copy that data from the recycle bin back to where you want it.
The loss could be related to he disk failure, especially if the disk failure caused the NAS to hang.
On recent firmware, if the disk is good and the volume is redundant then you should be able to move a disk to a different slot while the NAS is off, however this disk is dead.
I would suggest you backup your important data primarily stored on the ReadyNAS as the next step.
You may wish to hook the WD disk up to a PC and test it using WD LifeGuard Diagnostics.
Looks lime you are running old firmware from 2009. What version of RAIDiator do you have installed? - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
