Has anyone modified UPS to use a car battery?
I am sick and tired of my power going out and readynas getting a harsh shutdown.
My power system in my area is actually worse than a 3rd world country. The power is constantly going out for hours on end.
Anyway, I have tons of UPS system and they are always failing because of lack of power.
Has anyone ever consider the mod in which you can add a car battery to the UPS?
Thanks

That sounds like something that would be very dangerous.
You are best to ask an expert on UPS systems (and other systems) about an appropriate solution for your environment which takes into account your regular lengthy power outages.- StephenBGuru - Experienced User
You can daisy-chain a couple of UPS to get longer run time.
A generator is of course another option, which could provide power for the house generally.

I have one of those portable car jump starting devices that also includes a compressor, cig lighter outlight, and a 120V electical outlet on it. During the hurricane I found that applying the car battery post clamps to the battery, and plugging something into the electical outlet did the trick. You would need to add a trickle charger for the battery, which I have and use pseudo regularly because I live in a location where I end up driving my car less than once a month. I have to haul the battery inside to charge it periodically. I'm pretty sure this setup would not be wife friendly except during a hurricane. I haven't had problems, but I wouldn't discount the advice of having an AGM sealed battery for a "permanent" solution.
