HELP Please - My ReadyNAS RN104 keeps failing
Hello All together,
I am used my RN104 device for several years and I was always happy with it. Unfortunately, today I hit the renew Firmware-button via my http browser and uploaded the latest FW version 6.8.0. After the upload, the error message occurred "unknown Servererror". I've tried it two times, but it always failed.
Just for understanding, normally you choose the FW-file, upload it, confirm and flash the fw. in my case, the upload failed and I expected no action afterwards.
As next, I've tried and uploaded version 6.4.0, but same error result. So finally, I continued copying files to the working NAS-device. After 5 Minutes of copying, the connection interrupted and the device went offline.
After I turned it on again, the device got stuck during "booting...." lCD message. No luck, after several reboots...the device stayed down.
As next, I've started the boot menue and selected "OS Reinstall". No help. So I tried to create the recovery USB-Stick by using https://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29952
The KB was not really working for me, because the tool never created a "marvell" folder for my case. So I created the usb-stik by my-self :
(see attached file) and started USB-recovery mode.
USB recovery seemed to be successful, because the device is able to boot again and finishes with the errors message (can't find any dis-drives). Of course, I ejected all 3 4TB disk-drives before I started any recovery tries.
But unfortunately I can't access my device via network anymore. My "RAIDar_6.3.0.exe" tools finds the device with IP 192.168.168.168 and 192.168.172.13, but as soon as I try to access it, the browser says that the device refused the connection.
Any Idea, how I should continue now....I am absolutely frustrated.....
Any idea or help is appreciated.
Cheers,
Stefan
Hi again,
fixed it! Finally it worked for me! Got my unit to work again after many different FW version flash tries. At the end I've used this USB stick:
and VERY IMPORTANT do not eject/remove your original disks from the system. The FW upgrade can not start, when the org disks are pluged into the system.
No strange marvell - folder is required. 6.4.0 is much faster than before and many usefull options are included now.

I suggest paid support (my.netgear.com).
- schlaraffenAspirantWhat does it mean, paid support? Phone support?
- schlaraffenAspirantCould someone tell me, if my usb Recovery stick was created correctly. Always when i tried to use the Automated usb creation tool, that specific marvell folder was missing...and i never could select a img file within the tool
... someone knows a working guide, how to create a recovery usb stick with any fw version for rn104 device succesfully?
