Installation - "Cannot connect discovery server"

Hey - I have a brand new ReadyNAS 2014.  I've added two 4TB Seagate NAS drives to it.

According to the tiny manual that came with the 204, it is running OS 6.2.

Upon turning on the system and trying to detect the device using ReadyCloud, the device was not found and the LED screen provided the "Cannot connect discovery server" message.

It then started to resync the drives all on its own which took 10 hours.

It is now back to the "Cannot connect discovery server" message.

The IP address on the LED screen when it was resyncing the drives was 169.254.41.172

I cannot ping this address from other devices on my network.

My network assigns 192. addresses so that's not surprising.  When i add other devices to the network, they are automatically assigned an IP through DHCP.  The network jack on both the NAS and the router are lit green.

I saw that some other folks had this issue but after months of the NAS running and usually in response to changing an app or a bad OS release.

Have no idea what to try.

Suggestions please!

What do you see on the ReadyNAS LCD when unplugging the network cable then plugging it back in?

This should get it to try obtaining an IP address again.

169.254.x.x is a self-assigned IP scheme, so the NAS did not receive an IP from DHCP.

If that doesn't work might be worth trying the other port on the NAS.

If you get into the NAS consider updating to the latest firmware (6.4.2) before proceeding with use.

If it still gets the same I.P. you could set the I.P. address of the NIC in your PC to e.g. 169.254.41.100 and go to https://169.254.41.172/admin and do a local update to 6.4.2. Once this is all done, don't forget to change the settings of the NIC in your PC back to what they were before.

Just as a follow-up, "cannot connect discovery server" is because your ReadyNAS cannot route to the internet and contact the ReadyCLOUD discovery server, which was primarily the main function of discovering your ReadyNAS without RAIDar. It should not be there as long on the latest firmwares.
