RS700 does not install new Netgear update

Hi Folks I have a RS700 Netgear update problem I hope you can solve wih a fix

Router is set as you see in this screenprint to do auto upgrades but it never does.

So I went on Netgear website and downloaded the newest version

you see I listed in blue.

Old .82 new .96

As you see it is newer than what the router is using

Since even when I tell the router to do a update via Netgear once that process is over and I check it still is using the older version

BTW when process is over as norm my browser shows loss connection to the router and call up that URL again and it than works so clearly something in the update process is doing something

I than do a manual upgrade selecting on my P/C this newer version and the process starts but again when done the router still shows using the older version

Why is this happening and how do I correct this so newer version is now functional on RS700 ?

Tech Support says support ended for my unit 3 1/2 months ago so will not even help as their own updates fail 😞

Thanks for any help.. .JR

  • What browser are you using?

Does this happen with MS Edge or FireFox browsers?

The Firefox browser is not the issue as the router is set to do upgrades automatic

and even installed the Nighthawk App on cellphone and selecting upgrade be done than says succesful yet looking at the RS700 still shows the older version still being used.

Also the router still says an upgrade is needed

  • An FYI

The RS700 I got last year the first thing had to do was a firmware upgrade which was .82

The few newer upgrades and the last .96 even though the upgrade process when done stated sucessful the router still showed version .82

I tried doing this via setting router to auto, I did it manually via browesr and even installed their Nighthawk App on cellphone ( which beagn spamming me so uninstalled but upgrades failed that process to

Before finding this thread I started another thread as to my issues on here

Someone on this blog had me send them the debug files and from that support decided they needed to make a case # and from that an RMA where doing that process alone has been a real pain and even then I have to pay for the shipping

Have to wait to see if they do ship me another RS700 and it works correctly

but I have owned a lot cheaper Netgear routers that never had an issue until this Nighthawk costing a lot more

  • Might ask them to put latest FW version ON the RS router before they ship something to you.

      Update as of Weds, 3/26/25

After much hassle, 4 different Netgear case numbers assigned by them, over 20 emails

Finally Netgear shipped me a new RS700S which I received today

I had saved the router settings of my older RS700 to P/C and after getting new one up with basic setting via browser than did a restore of those save settings, had a few issues but fixed them

Ths new RS700S also had the older .82 firmware as my old one but where it would fail doing any newer firmware updates, this new one had no issues when I had it do the newest .96 firmware update and I confirmed what version router is running with now

They still have not returned the shipping costs I had to pay via the online RMA process but Netgear claims it was a mistake and they would refund but have not as of today

  • Good Idea, I will ask them to as not looking forward with a new R700 also having this problem
