iSCSI Nic compatibility

Hi Guys

We are selling more and more iSCSI solutions with the 3200, 4200 and plenty 2100 series and in some cases we are getting iSCSI connectivity issue's after a month, Not on all of them.

When we log the on FRED and the netgear engineers check the logs they tell us the network nics are losing connectivity on most of these cases and this is a concern for us because if you lose connectivity while wrighting to a data base you are sometimes losing that data or the partition goes cu rapt.

the end user always tells us the server have 2 nics so they will use the on board for iSCSI connectivity.. could there be compatibility issue's ??? we generally recommend the Intel® PRO/1000 PT Dual Port Server Adapter

Link - http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ ... pt-dp.html

for iSCSI but is this the correct card as well because im starting to doubt this as well

please share your knowledge and ideas as we are a distributor in South Africa and want to give the best solution possible

thank you

  • Can you share some case numbers, so we can review the logs as well?
  • i will get some info for you, But i also have to say we have sort out 3 customers with this option which is under you nic... and this could maybe assist other people as well, I doint say this will fix all problems with iSCSI .
  • You resolved issues by using an Intel server NIC in the machines connecting to the iSCSI targets?
  • go here:

start / control panel / view network status and tasks / change adapter setting / " Right click on the card which is your iSCSI card " and click on properties.

Click on configure and then on the Power Management tab / un-tick the block which says " allow the computer to turn off this device to save power "

This setting helped us sorting out iSCSI luns to disappear in the mornings while the server was not active during the night and sometimes during the day

if you have more stories like these please post them here
