Move RAID volume from broken ReadyNAS RNDX4000 into older -> ReadyNAS-NV

Hi,

A few days ago my ReadyNAS NVX (RAIDiator-x86 4.2.26) shorted and basically blew up. When pressing power there was a loud bang, burning smell, tripped circuit breakers etc.

I have more or less decided to go for a new RN314 unit. However the RN314 is running OS 6 and is not compatible with older RAIDiator based RAID volumes.
There is a procedure that mounts the volume in Read-Only mode which I can follow: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29875/~/readynas%3A-migrating-disks-from-raidiator-to-os-6

But..I also have an older ReadyNAS-NV (RAIDiator 4.1.14) unit that is working fine and most importantly running RAIDiator. I am planning/thinking to swap disks (volume) from my fried RNDX4000 to the working ReadyNAS-NV. When I have access to the data I can transfer directly into a new shiny RN314.

1) Can ReadyNAS-NV support a volume from RNDX4000?

2) Do I need to perform a factory reset on ReadyNAS-NV before attempting to swap volumes?

3) I might have messed up the disk order on the RNDX4000 in the mayhem that resulted from the NAS explosion :-)
What will I run into if I try to mount/boot on wrong ordering?

Other things to consider in my most desperate hour?

    1. No. The RAID format is different and Sparc NAS can't boot an x86 OS, likewise an x86 NAS can't boot a Sparc OS.
    2. See above, you can't migrate disks from a NVX to a NV or vice versa
    3. It is best to keep the disk order the same, but provided the disks and array are fine you should still be O.K. If needed support could determine the drive order by looking at the OS on the disks.

You should get the RN314 and move the disks across to that following the article you linked to. If it doesn't boot you will need to contact support for additional assistance.

      Hi,

Thanks for the assistance! I have succesfully transfered all data from my old raid volume using RN314 to backup/intermediate storage.

Restructuring data architecture and waiting for Amazon Cloud Drive support... :-)
