Yes, i just moved from a 204 to a 516. i migrated my 4 disks over--just make sure you place them in the same order. Later on, i inserted additional disks to take advantage of the additional slots and the array grew on its won.
Yes, it will automatically see larger drives and will expand the array. Just make sure you give it time to repair the array in between swapping out the drives--does that make sense?

Uninstall all your apps before migrating from arm to x86 ReadyNAS. The system will convert itself from arm to x86, but it won't do the apps.
On the 10 TB disks - larger disks are switching to "alternative mounting positions", so you probably do want to check the mount positions they use (side and bottom) before purchase. You can remove the plastic inserts, and use the bottom screws if needed. Some of the holes still might not align - though the disks can be secured even with one pair of screws.
Netgear has recently added more holes to the bottom of the trays, but there's no guarantee that a newly purchased RN316 will have them (it might be older inventory).
