Netgear ReadyNAS 104 won't power up.
On Sunday at 3:15 pm I got an email notification that reads "Detected high spin retry count: [262144] on disk 1 (Internal) [TOSHIBA DT01ACA200, Y2S3T8DAS]. This condition often indicates an impendin...

I decided to risk the $26 for the new power supply. Got it today and it started right up with the new power supply so case is solved. Bad power supply.

You may have an issue with the power pack or the power connection on the NAS. Did you try wiggling the connection to see if it made a difference? As StephenB stated, buying a replacement supply may be a good thing to try. If you have another 5V supply without at least 1A of capacity and the right connector, you could try powering it up using that supply without the drives. Under no circumstances should you try it with the drives and an underrated supply, you could do a lot of damage. But if it powers up empty with a lower-rated supply, you know for sure the power pack is the issue.

I checked the output of the power supply and it is at 12 V DC.

That the green light comes on and the output measures 12V without a load are not necessarily an indication that the supply is providing sufficient power under load. But that it did power up a couple times with the drives and won't at all does tend to point to that not being the issue. You may have a problem with one of the voltage regulators within the NAS that produces the voltages needed (5V and 3.3V). That's a non-repairable problem. But it also could still be just a bad connection of the power supply, even if wiggling didn't have any effect.
I think it's highly doubtful that the drives caused the issue. In fact, I think it's more likely that insufficient voltage to the drives caused those error messages and the drives are actually fine.

Yeah I am going to have to agree with you there. I put in 4 known good 1 TB drives in place of the current 4 2 TB drives that were in it and still get nothing when plugging it in and turning it on. A new power brick would run me $26 + tax and if it does not work it would be a waste of money as I have nothing else where that 4 prong plug would fit. Not worth putting money into this thing that is well past 10 years old. Time to move on.
