NV+ 2TB Limit - Was Disappointed, Now Happy
I bought an NV+ a couple of years back and was happy to see the improved support for Timemachine. But, with just 2 1TB drives I was limited to ~600GB. I did my research and settled on the Western D...

I'm using "Share" security mode. I did specify "options:tm" for the share. I set the user's home as the share because it didn't show up and the other users in the /etc/passwd (backup, media) had the corresponding shares listed as their home dirs: Here are the last few lines of the ReadyNAS /etc/passwd:
backup::1000:65534::/c/backup:/bin/false
media::1001:65534::/c/media:/bin/false
administrator:!:93:98::/var/local/:/bin/false
partner:!:99:99::/c/home/partner:/bin/false
ReadyNAS:$1$d.i1jseA$aVAHe7h4YqUaoqzS89DFN.:96:65534::/var/lib/timemachine:/bin/true
StudioBackup:$1$CeH1ZfxD$WJ9NVY.wS9BHHuCYKPtBH1:1002:65534::/c/StudioBackup:/bin/true
The StudioBackup entry was in the file- I only later modified the user home dir and program to try to match what was already there.
I did add the options:tm to the AppleVolumes.default - but it appears to have been removed after a reboot of the NV+. I saw something about this - is the 4.1.8+ beta required for this? (confirmed - it's being removed on reboot)
ReadyNAS:~# cat /etc/netatalk/AppleVolumes.default
"/StudioBackup" "StudioBackup" cnidscheme:dbd allow:StudioBackup deny:"nobody" options:tm
"/backup" "backup" cnidscheme:dbd forceuid:backup
You didn't say whether I need to be running Lion for this to work.
When you talk about users, it's not clear to me if you mean on the Mac or on the ReadyNAS as far as auto mount - it sounds now like you meant a Mac user. I'm confused how the Mac user would have the ReadyNAS share set up -but I'll look at that tomorrow - too tired tonight.
I copied the .com.apple.timemachine.supported (zero-length) file to /c/StudioBackup - still no luck.
Question: are you a Netgear support eng, or just a helpful forum member? -jk
