NV+ failed - brief flash of lights above drive indicators. Need recovery solution.

My READYnas NV+ wont turn on.  If I unplug and plug back in the first time I press power button I get a brief flash above the hard drive indicators.  The second time nothing.  If I unplug and back in I get the flash again.

I need to get the data off the device and hopefully repair the device if possible.  I know the answer is in the forumn somewhere but searching has led to many dead ends.  Sorry in advance for repeating the question.

Two questions:

1) Any solutions for device?

2) Would any of the newer devices accept the drives "as is" so data is recoverable?

  • You likely have a failed power supply, though I guess there are other possible chassis failures.  Try support first, they might be able to sell a replacement.  You can replace the supply yourself with an off-the-shelf supply, but you'd need to modify the power pinout one of the connectors.  We can post links for that if you are interested.

You might be able to find a used NV+, but sometimes they aren't fully functional (and you need to be very certain that you get an NV+ v1 if you are using 4.1.x firmware, and an NV+ v2 if you are running 5.3.x firmware).  More information on unit identification is here: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how-to-tell-whether-i-have-a-duo-v1-or-duo-v2-or-nv-v1-or-nv-v2/

None of the newer NAS will accept the drives as is.  Netgear Support can help you off-load the data if you purchase a new ReadyNAS, but there would likely be a cost.  http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29876?cid=wmt_netgear_organic
