NV+ not booting - possible to get data off??

Our lab uses the NV+ ReadyNas for data storage. However, as of a few weeks ago, the system would not power up anymore (neither LCD screen nor LED indicators or power button light will come on). We desperately need to get the data off of the drives used in that NV+.

We got a new NV+ enclosure and moved the drives from the old one into this one in hopes of backing up the data, and then replacing drives with larger ones. The enclosure boots up and is recognized on the network with an actual IP address. However, when we try to access the IP adress we cant, and the IP address cant be pinged either.

We also tried the automatic backup of the drives by plugging in a 2TB external drive and pushing the backup button (which started to blink), but no data was backed up.

Any idea how we can get our data off? That is really the only concern, once that is done we will replace the old drives with new large drives anyway and use them for extra storage on computers after formatting.

Thanks for any help!!!

  • I would suggest you contact tech support. With the purchase of a new unit, you have 90 days of free telephone support on the new unit. Normally, if the array was healthy, removing the drives from one NV+ and inserting in a second, the second should boot right up as if it were the previous unit (with the exception of the listing of the serial number on the main page). All shares, users and configuration setting as well as the data should be intact.

Apparently what ever caused the NV+ to no longer boot may have damaged the array. Tech support would be your bet. Once you have a case number, edit your first post and append the case number to the subject line so it will show up in the discussion listing. Let us know how it goes.

Depending on what happened to the original NV+ (my guess is PSU) if it can be repaired it would serve as a good backup target using rsync. You might want to open a second tech support case on this unit via on-line as telephone support for it would be on a charge basis. How long have you had the original NV+?
  • Thank you very much for the advice!! Will call them now and do as you suggested, will keep you posted!
