NV+ sparc disk swap WD20EARS to WD20EFRX

Greetings,

I have four WD20EARS in X-RAID.
I'd like to replace with reds (unless similar $/performance/no issues can be recommended)
I'd like to start with one as follows
1. power down NV+
2. remove one WD20EARS disk and insert WD20EFRX in the same slot
3. power up NV+
4. expect auto-sync to start

Would this work? is WD20EFRX compatible?

Why power down the NAS? Remove the disk, wait say half a minute or so then insert the replacement disk. No need to power off the system.
  • many thanks. sounds great.
How would I make sure the physical properties of the two disk will not cause any conflicts?
I know there are small differences in total available capacity (sectors) even for different WD20EARS types, not all are the same capacity/size.
    Would this cause any dramas?

So long as the capacity of the replacement disks are the same as or higher than the disks you are replacing you will be fine. If the replacement disk has less sectors then there would be a problem
