FYI - I just went back to 5.3.5 (from 5.3.6) and the fan noise persists. Groan. I may go for a fan swap (I've heard of users going to Fractal Designs or Gelid Solutions fans) and bite the bullet with the warranty. It's just too loud, I can hear it from the next room. How did this get past QC?
Nov 2 update: I replaced the stock Magic fan with a Gelid Silent 6 92 mm fan and the fan noise is gone. It's a pretty easy swap, just two screws on each side to pull off the sides and four more to pull off the fan and bracket on the back. The Gelid comes with 4 rubber grommets which you can use instead of screws to hold the fan to the bracket. No noise, no vibration. It was $6 (retail) to buy the fan online, how much is NetGear saving by selling the chassis with that crap noisy fan?
