Hi Stephen,
Thank you very much for your exact pinpointing of the issue and i could figure out the solution also.
I was not able to connect my wired laptop to the wirelessly connected laptop due to a setting of Modem.
This setting is named 'Enable MultiAP Isolation'. It was on by default.
When i switched it off, i was able to make it work.
This solution resolved my issue related to NAS Drive as well.
Thank you so much.
Regards,
Nikhil

Thanks for clarifying the network topology.
It sounds like you have a what Netgear would call a "gateway" - a router with an integrated modem.
So:
-the NAS is normally the only wired ethernet device
-nothing on the wireless network can reach the NAS
-but when you connect a laptop wired, it can reach the NAS
This collection of symptoms points to the dlink, not the NAS. It's responsible for bridging your wireless network with your ethernet network.
Assuming I have the symptoms correct:
(1) if you connect one laptop to the wired network, can you ping it from your other laptop (connected via wifi)?
(2) If both laptops are on the wireless network, can they ping each other?
(3) if you look at the wireless settings screen in the router, is "Client Isolation" turned on?
(4) what IP address is assigned to your laptop when it is connected wirelessly?
