I'm just going off what NetGear said here: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_migrate_disks_over_from_an_existing_readynas_to_another
It does/did make a difference. If for some reason you did need to try to migrate a non-redundant array I would clone the disks and seek help from NetGear tech support.
Btw I meant migrating redundant array from one NAS to another NAS.
