Power Off Button!!!
I am astonished that I can't choose to power off this unit with the push of a button. It has got to be THE MOST ANNOYING aspect of this otherwise very well designed NAS box. I thought the ReadyNAS Duo unit was supposed to be for the "consumer" home-user. Really, what consumer-level home user doesn't want an off button? I really hate having to boot up my computer just to turn the thing off.
My wife absolutely HATES the fact that she can't turn it off. She ends up unplugging the thing half the time, and then I am forced to wait though an hour of error checking every time I boot up the box.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider adding this option, or my wife may just end up throwing it out the window!

- tcblackAspirantIt's there.
Press and hold the power button for five seconds (or so). The LED's will blink and it will enter shutdown sequence.
:-) - dbriccaAspirantThank you tcblack! They really should have much better documentation...
- Dogberry1AspirantIt works just like every computer (and some appliances) I've seen in the last ten years. Having to hold the power button down for several seconds helps prevent accidental shutdowns. In the early days of desktop computers, they had toggle or rocker type power switches, and they were always getting bumped, shutting the system down at the wrong time.

You're right Dogberry, I remember losing documents during those days. :slap:
Autosave has been among the best features ever built into a word processor. Better than spel chek. - lanman555AspirantThe Readynas Duo V2 power button must be pressed quickly twice to start the shut-down sequence. Read the 'hardware manual'.
Use of the power button only seems to work once the device is fully booted. To check if the device is fully booted up use the Raidar software utility. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPlease don't revive dead threads. Yes all the old posts in this thread are about the v1. Understandable as this thread was active almost three years before the Duo v2 was released.
