Putting drives back in correct order ReadyNAS RNR4000
I'm new to this community and do not have a log of knowledge regarding the ReadyNAS. I just know that it's been running since 2009 and when a drive goes bad, we would hotswap them.
I know it's bad to say, but our device is just an afterthought, until we had 3 drives crash and not finding a whole lot of info on it. I pulled 3 of the drives out (drives 2,3,4) and was going to replace them thinking possibly it would work. But, it didn't. So, now I was going to put the drives back in and see if I could possibly recovery the data off of them, but I do not know which drive goes in which. I've read that the logs can tell me this, but I do not know which log to look at. Any info would be helpful. I do have logs going back a few years. Thanks so much.

Replacing three disks at once is not going to work. Your NAS does not have a dual-redundant RAID level option let alone a triple-redundant RAID option.
If you were using X-RAID the relevant log is xraid_config.log
You would also have to look at another log to confirm which disk was hdc, hde, hdg and hdi at the time.
So you don't have a backup?
Have you hooked up the disks to your PC to test them? You should e.g. test SeaGate disks using SeaTools or WD disks using WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics.- mrbangusAspirant
Thanks for the info! I actually got them back in order by looking at the "disk_identify.log" that was from July and found them by their serial number. Such a relief! Now, I'm going to number them and see if I can recover some data.

Note that we do sell some data recovery services (we do software based data recovery only). It's definitely a help when users have had the foresight to download the logs before running into issues and have kept those in a safe place.
