You should be able to install e.g. VirtualBox (a free alternative to VMWare) via SSH. There's a long thread on how it was done on 4.2.x. If it can be installed on that older OS I can't see why it wouldn't work on a newer OS such as ReadyNAS OS. Although the process to install it would likely be a little different.
