You can reach the web ui (frontview) of the NAS from the Win10 web browser?
Assuming that is the case, then the next step is to go into "turn windows features on or off" on the PC, and make sure the SMB 1.0 client is enabled. 4.2.x firmware only supports SMB 1, so you will need to enable it (and ignore any security warning).
After you enable SMB 1, try to access the NAS using file explorer. Enter \\nas-ip-address in the address bar (using the real IP address of course). Make sure you use the correct slash.

hello again. tried the Surface adapter on my Dell - worked great! obtained IP address easily, right away, and on same /24 network with the NAS. laptop = 192.168.1.110, NAS, that I can still browse in Win Exploder from the new Dell = 192.168.1.84. so the Ethernet adapter helped, but problem with RAIDar still unresolved.
what do we do next? and thanks in advance.

doh. believe it or not, I hadn't thought of that. ugh.
using Edge, I can login but the page doesn't look right. I'm guessing it didn't "render" right, or something. but it did let me in & loaded the page.
so I launched Chrome & retried. bang, I'min & Chrome presents the page very nicely, and I can click the buttons, broswe the tabs & all that I care to do for device management.
that's what I had been having issue with - accessing device mgmt features. I had been trying to use RAIDar to do that, when in fact a web browser works just great.
thanks so much for your help & tolerance while we worked to find a solution!
