Issues moving a 6 disk XRAID set from a deceased Ultra 6 to an RNDP6350
Good day to all, First a little background... I have a ReadyNAS Ultra 6 that has been my backup platform to my production NAS (at home) for about 2 years. Recently it crapped out and I deter...

There is nothing stored in the NAS itself regarding any configuration. All of that is on the drives, so moves with your volume.
You should boot the NAS with a scratch drive and see what OS it's running. If it's 4.2.x, I suspect it is, then you'll need to upgrade to 6.0 using that scratch drive (if I recall your PM correctly and you were running OS6 in the Ultra).
Before you do the conversion, you should upgrade the memory to at least 2GB (the memory from your Ultra6 is compatible) and back up the VPD file (see Backup-and-restore-of-VPD-file-for-legacy-ReadyNAS-running-OS6).

Thank for your response. I suspect that a factory reset will be necessary to clear the old configuration data and clear the error, and I have disks I can use for a test disk. What I'm concerned about is if I can ultimately install the 6 disk RAID set from the damaged Ultra 6 into the RNDP6350 and regain access to the data on it and, if so, how to do that successfully.

Hey SS, thanks for your help! Yup, the Ultra 6 was running 6.10.10 but its a dead unit so it appears to me that I can't recover the VPD file from it. How do I get the box to boot with a scratch drive? I'm getting the ERR message that I posted earlier when trying to do so

Opps, after rereading your post Sandshark I realized I should be backing up the VPD file from the target box, not the Ultra, before upgrading to OS6. I've got the machine to boot from the scratch disk by setting to factory defaults and it's available on the network but running TLS 1.0. I actually have run into this before so I had to do some work around stuff to access the RAIDar admin screen. It's alive!!!!
Looks like I have some upgrades to perform

Great advice on the memory. You had told me this a while back so thanks for the reminder. I'll install the additional memory from the Ultra into the 6359 before I do anything else as your recommend! Also, I grabbed a Intel Core 2 Duo E7600 3.06 GHz Dual-Core CPU and remember you telling me that the box would require the latest BIOS upgrade that can be performed on 4.x but the upgrade won't work with OS6. I guess I'll need to identify the current version of OS on the 6350 before I can go forward with any CPU upgrade. The CPU hardware replacement itself looks pretty straight forward. Is there some sort of procedure document floating around that details the CPU upgrade process?

Memory upgrade to 3GB, update of the BIOS, backup of VPD file and upgrade to OS6 on the Pro 6 has completed successfully. Grateful shoutouts go out to Sandshark and StevenB for their great help and providing the information needed to get this upgrade and data recovery done. I've been able to recover ~24TB of backup data with the help of the great people here.
A heartfelt THANK YOU!
