Ready NAS Ultra completely dead

Hello,

I think my readynas died today :I was logging in readynas photos 2 when I got a "connexion refused" error from my browser. At the exact same time, All my network share got disconnected from the Nas.

At first I thought of a network problem, so I rebooted my router, but the NAS was still unreachable after that.

So I did the following steps :

- rebooting the NAS and waited (about half an hour) : the nas never appeared on the network, and the fan where running at higher speed than usual.
- rebooting again, without any USB device (I have a USB drive for NAS backups and an Eaton backup UPS)
- changing the ethernet cable (with a cable tested on another computer)
- switching the ethernet cable to the second ethernet plug
- Memory test from the Boot menu (ran during 2 hours without issue)
Nothing worked.

On Raidar, the NAS is seen for the first 30 seconds, until the step "Checking system" ("Vérification du système" in french). After that, the NAS is not seen by Raidar anymore

I tried an OS reinstall, here is what I saw on the device's LEDs :

- all the LEDS did power on. After a few seconds, the Power LED turned off and the nas appeared in Raidar, with status "Updating" (Mise à jour). Activity was blinking quite fast.
- After a few seconds, the activity LED stopped and the NAS disappeared from raidar. I left the device as is for about one hour, without change.
- I rebooted the NAS again, but still nothing...

The only good news is that the NAS still responds to ping, and my drives seem OK (at least for the few seconds I see the NAS during its boot).

The NAS has two 2tb Caviar green drives, and is configured as X-RAID 2 (mirror).

That was a long story (sorry), and I am pretty scared. I have several questions :

- Did anyone encounter this issue ? How did it end ?
- currently, is there a way to know if my data is safe ?
- Is there a way to get my data back without using another nas ? Most of my data is backed up, but not the most recent files, and I really would like to get those back too

Thanks a lot for your help,

Benjamin
