ReadyCloud vs Admin Page?
I have a ReadyNAS 102 with two 4TB drives installed. I bought the setup 5 years ago and attempted to set it up with a direct connection to my computer but never got it up and running - and so have no...

Thanks so much for your response. It's the firmware update to 6.2.5 that failed (see one of the screenprints on the attached document). Any idea why the update aborted?
Thanks!

I don't know why it aborted. I suggest downloading the zip file from https://kb.netgear.com/29498/ReadyNAS-OS-Version-6-2-5-RN102-RN104-Only Then extract the image from the zip file, and install it manually from the settings page.

Hi, Stephen. The ReadyNAS firmware is now updated to 6.10.3. The 6.2.5 update happened a bit mysteriously (maybe my earlier try from within the ADMIN page wasn't completely aborted), and then I was able to install 6.5.2 and 6.10.3 normally from within ADMIN. I had to restart the machine one extra time, but then was able to log into the ADMIN page as well as ReadyCLOUD. Great! Thanks so much for your help. Two remaining questions before I start figuring out how to actually set the storage up - maybe you can help me:
1. On both the ADMIN and ReadyCLOUD pages "Not secure" appears before the URL in the address bar of the browser. Drop-down boxes appear below the "Not secure" message and they list "Certificate, Cookies, and Settings" in the Admin message box and "Cookies and Settings" in the ReadyCLOUD message box. Can you give me any guidance on how to deal with this?
2. In the ReadyCloud Manage page there is a red dot next to Antivirus, with "Disabled" noted. Is there an antivirus program that comes with the firmware that I should be turning on? For my computers I rely on Windows Defender.
Thanks! Bruce

No. There used to be one for the RN100 series, but Netgear removed in around 6.9.0. The RN100 only has 512 MB of RAM, and that was no longer enough to run it.
How important this is depends on who you allow to upload to the NAS. If all the files are coming from your Windows PCs, then your PC scanners have already checked them. If you allow others to upload, then you are depending on their security.

What browser are you using?
In the case of the web admin ui, the NAS uses what is called a self-signed certificate. This cannot be verified by the browser (because it is self-assigned). So there will be a security warning in the browser. The connection is encrypted - so it is secure in that sense. The warning is telling you that the browser can't confirm that you are actually connecting to your NAS (or connecting through some intermediate server).
ReadyCloud is a bit different. Netgear is using http (not https) to access the web page. That apparently is an accomodation needed for routers that also support the ReadyCloud feature. So that will also generate a browser warning. They say that the site actually is secure though. https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Cloud-Storage/Secure-connection-to-http-readycloud-netgear-com-HTTPS/m-p/1488079#M9878
There's not much you can do about either, other than ignore/click through the warnings. Firefox lets you create a security exception (at least it used to). But I just click through it (using Chrome).
