ReadyNAS 314 how to see resync status via ssh ?

Ok so mine is a tail of woe, a kodi reinstall lead to a library rescan and appears to have stirred the cobwebs on one of my disks and caused its demise, I woke up last saturday morning to a very unresponsive nas, was unable to access the web interface but was able to access the shares across my network, by late saturday night I decided to try and reboot it, unaware at that point of the disk failure and attempted a shutdown via the controls on the face plate, when that appeared to just sit there for sometime I eventually hard reset it and went to bed whilst it was booting back up, sunday morning was the same story, but was now unable to browse the shares, eventually got web access late that afternoon only to find my disks were inactive and resync was in process, I was able to download the logs via radar that day and keep an eye on the resync process via the web interface until Monday afternoon but since then I have not been able to gain access to the web interface or download the logs via radar although it does see the nas and state the volumes are still inactive (it's now Friday evening btw). I know I've got to replace the disk but don't want to do that until I know the current resyncing operation is complete and I am able to gain access via ssh so was wondering where could I find out that information ?

  • Use the command watch cat  /proc/mdstat for continuous updates, or leave out watch for a single update.

Cheers, it's only climbed 14% in the last 4 days then it appears, anyone know if adding a new disk before this completes would be problematic or would help speed things up ?

The resync needs to complete before the system will process another disk.
