ReadyNAS 3200 and WD20EARS

Are there any plans to support the Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EARS 2TB drive in the ReadyNAS 3200?

Of course not. Only enterprise disks are supported in the 12-bay rackmounts. Consumer disks like the WD20EARS would fail very quickly in the 3200 as the WD20EARS is not designed for RAID use.

  • just because a drive is not 'supported', does not mean that it can't be used.

of course, with the cost of a 3200 and the amount of data it can hold, I'd expect that you would want to have higher reliability drives than the EARS.
