ReadyNas 4200 Version

How do I tell what hardware version a ReadyNas 4200 is?

I am thinking that the 4200 I just received is not the current version which I believe should be V2. This NAS was delivered with Firmware version 19, the current version is 22 so that likely indicates old stock. The serial number is <REMOVED BY MODERATOR>. Frontview just says the model is Readynas 4200. If anyone could clarify this I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks

Update to the latest firmware. 4.2.19 (http://www.readynas.com/RAIDiator_x86_4_2_19_Notes) is quite old now.

    4.2.22 is the latest: http://www.readynas.com/RAIDiator_x86_4_2_22_Notes

Sounds like you have a v1. The v1 does not support 3TB drives in drive bays 5 to 12.

If your reseller accepts returns for change of mind you may wish to return the unit in exchange for another. However the only way to guarantee you get a v2 unit would be to get a unit that ships from the factory with 3TB drives installed. Or you could consider the new ReadyDATA 5200. However do note that the ReadyDATA only accepts NetGear supplied drives not 3rd party ones.
  • Wow! Bad news.

I can't believe that retailers are selling servers that are this old without specifying their states in the advertisement.

Would anyone know by the serial number when this would have been shipped?

Thanks for any light you can shine on this!

The only way I know of to tell which version you have would be to buy the unit and turn it on. The 4200 v2 should indicate that it is a v2 in Frontview and in RAIDar.

I presume NetGear could tell from the serial number when it was produced but unfortunately I don't think there's any way for end users to tell.

The 4200 is an expensive NAS and even far cheaper NAS units have been known to sit on a reseller's (or if the reseller ordered it in on the distributor's) shelf for quite a while before being purchased.
